The Employee Relations Manager supports Rockler's Mission and Values by providing timely employee relations expertise to support the organization. This is done by delivering proactive and creative solutions driving business goals, ensuring compliance, and managing risk in a fast-paced, performance-driven, customer-focused, collaborative environment. Close partnership with HR Director to make disciplinary recommendations and provide guidance regarding employee-related issues. Work closely with management to drive employee relations while maintaining a neutral position and consistent approach to the Company's policies and procedures, minimize risk and align work to meet business needs.

Responsibilities:

Employee Relations: In collaboration with HR Director, assist in managing the employee relations function for the company. Recommend and advise to all levels of executives, management and supervisors regarding personnel practices and procedures, and state and federal laws. Provide counsel and direction to all levels of management/staff/associates regarding employee relations issues, including, but not limited to, associate complaints, harassment allegations and civil rights complaints. Investigate, document and follow-up on all complaints. Recognize potential employee relation problems and take or recommend necessary corrective action. Develop, recommend, implement, administer, and interpret Company Policy and Procedures. Manage, monitor, and administer disciplinary procedures for all associates in compliance with state and federal laws, and Company policy and rules. Counsel associates and managers/supervisors regarding corrective action.

Benefit Administration: Lead administration of all benefit programs to include enrollment process, changes, and communications. Partner closely with Benefit Broker and benefit providers on all benefit programs offered.

Workers Compensation: Closely monitor and lead in administration of workers' compensation cases including filing 1st Report of Injury with insurance carrier; manager/supervisor/associate consultation on workers compensation issues, coordinate legal and insurance carrier claims management to expedite resolution of claims and associates' return to work. Follow-up on any open cases. Coordinate quarterly review meeting with insurer. Attend safety committee meetings.

Legal Compliance: Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of current state and federal legal and regulatory legislation in the Human Resources area. Recommend and implement corporate procedural and policy changes as necessary. Administer corporate policy and work rules. Research and recommend revisions as needed. Research, process, and file OSHA logs.

Leaves of Absence: Lead administration of leaves including timely issuance of paperwork and record keeping, communication, and training to remain in compliance with state and federal leave regulations and statutes. Audit and maintain STD and LTD hours as applicable including providing required documentation to third party administrator. Lead efforts in training Managers in leave administration. Consult HR Director and legal resources as necessary for advice on the most sensitive leave administration cases.

Performance Management: Lead company-wide efforts by communicating timelines for completion, audit performance reviews making sure they are complete, that the review reflects the final rating, and that the salary recommendation fits salary guidelines. Communicate back to Manager's any concerns of reviews and salary changes.

Affirmative Action/EEOC: Manage the programs and processes associated with administration of the Affirmative Action plan to include strategies and tasks to attract, hire, and promote and retain a diverse workforce. Manage the documentation, analysis, reporting and related tasks to ensure ongoing compliance with EEO regulation. Oversee the training of all designated management and supervisory associates on all related AAP and EEO compliance and audit matters.

Attendance is an essential function of this position, and we rely on all our associates to be at work during their scheduled shift.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, a minimum of 5 years Human Resources experience in employment and associate relations, a minimum of 5 years Human Resources managerial experience required. Retail/Service experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous work experience with administering and managing programs and processes related to Affirmative Action Plan and EEO compliance.
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal, diplomacy, and communication skills, oral and written, required at all levels.
  • Ability to quickly build trusting relations, gain credibility, and partner with managers and peers.
  • Solid investigative and analytical skills sufficient to resolve problems.
  • Ability to effectively cope with change and manage stressful situations.
  • Strong working knowledge of policies, procedures and federal and state employment laws and regulations and related policies, procedures, and practices concerning leave, disability, wage and hour, recruitment, placement, separation, union management relations, associate relations, and investigative procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills/ability to manage many tasks at one time, strong attention to detail and follow-up skills.
  • Strong technical/computer skills including Word and Excel.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Previous experience using ADP preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines timely.
  • Experience working in multiple states preferred.
